Egg, the protein-rich superfood, offers a variety of benefits for not just our body—but also our hair. Eggs are packed with essential vitamins and minerals, as well as selenium, calcium, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus. In fact, the yolk portion of the egg contains lecithin, which helps in promoting hair growth and making your tresses silky and smooth.

Rich in protein and biotin, eggs provide nourishment and texture to damaged tresses and prevents hair breakage by conditioning the scalp. So, to get you going on your journey towards hair rejuvenation, we present five egg-based hair masks that can be applied twice to thrice a week for ensuring healthy, smooth and silky hair:

1. Egg, banana and honey mask laced with olive oil and milk

This mask will help you mend your damaged hair and will nourish your mane with protein. While banana and honey work as moisturising agents, olive oil and milk will help with strength and shine

Preparation and use:
Put 1 whole egg, 1 mashed banana, 3 tablespoons milk, 3 tablespoons honey and 5 tablespoons olive oil in a bowl. Combine all the ingredients together until well mixed.

Apply the mask gently onto your scalp and hair. Let the mask stay for an hour and rinse it with shampoo and cold water.

2. Egg, coconut oil and almond oil mask

Both almond and coconut oil have properties that re-moisturize dry hair and the protein in the egg provides strength to your tresses.

Preparation and use:
Mix 4 to 5 teaspoons of almond milk, 3 to 4 tablespoons of egg whites, and 1 to 2 tablespoons of coconut oil in a bowl to make the mask.

Gently apply the mask on your hair and scalp. Wash off your hair with cold water and shampoo.

3. Egg yolk and olive oil mask

Egg yolk is rich in protein fatty acids and vitamins like A, D, and E. These nutrients promote hair growth and prevent hair fall. Olive oil, on the other hand, strengthens and softens your hair, while exfoliating the scalp.

Preparation and use:
Mix 2 egg yolks, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, and 1 cup of water in a bowl. Apply the mixture evenly across your scalp.

Let the mixture sit in for 15-20 minutes. Rinse the mask off using shampoo and cold water.

4. Egg, aloe-vera and olive oil mask

The mixture of eggs and aloe vera acts as a strengthening agent for your hair and the olive oil replenishes dull hair, leaving you with a glossy and thick texture to your hair once you use this mask.

Preparation and use:
In a bowl, mix 2 to 3 tablespoons of egg yolk with 4 to 5 tablespoons of aloe vera. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil for 10 seconds before mixing it with the egg and aloe-vera batter.

Apply this mask on your hair and remember to give special attention to the roots.
Leave it on for 30 minutes and rinse with cold water.

5. Egg, lemon Juice and curd mask

This mask will enable you to fight hair-fall issues. While lemon juice will help clean the scalp, eggs and curd together will strengthen weak hair, prevent hair-fall, and keep dandruff at bay.

Preparation and use:
Mix 1 egg, 3 to 4 tablespoons of curd, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice in a bowl.
Gently apply the mask on your scalp.

Let the mask stay for about an hour and then rinse off the mask with shampoo and cold water.

Try using eggs for hair with these masks, and get ready to witness a change in your tresses in just a couple of washes!
