So many of us regularly deal with the menace of split ends. Besides the issue of aesthetics, split ends are also an indicator of damaged, brittle and dry hair. If you are looking at protecting your hair from split ends, then a hair mask made from natural ingredients can go a long way.

It could be a surprising thought at first, but all you need is a few kitchen staples to keep your hair healthy – sabudana starch and banana.

What causes split ends?

Split ends, or ‘trichoptilosis,’ occur due to the splitting or fraying of the hair shaft due to a number of factors ranging from the use of chemical products to genetics.

The usual suspects for this problem are exposure to extreme weather conditions, excessive blow-drying, hair straightening, and applying an overheated curling rod. Using chemical hair products also causes split ends, and so does taking hot showers, forcefully brushing tangled hair, and sleeping with your hair tied back.

Here’s how sabudana starch and banana can benefit your hair

Sabudana contains amino acids and carotenoids that aid in controlling hair fall, averting premature greying and balding. Its antifungal and antimicrobial properties help soothe hair roots or follicles, repair damaged scalp and split ends, and removing dandruff effectively. Banana, on the other hand, contains natural oils, ensuring that your dry hair gets the hydrating nourishment it needs.

So, ready to fight those split ends?

Here’s what you will need:
-1 cup sabudana starch
-1 tablespoon almond oil
-1 banana
-1 tbsp honey

Here’s how you can make and use the banana and sabudana starch hair mask for split ends:

Step 1: Soak a cup of sabudana in water. Put it aside for a night. In the morning, add the saubdana to 2 cups of water and heat the mixture till it comes to a boil. Sieve this mix to retain the sabudana starch.
