Do you wake up in the morning with tangled and frizzy hair? This may have happened to almost all of us. The worst part? The moment you realize that you have to brush your tangled, knotted and messy locks, you also realize that you are going to have a lot of hair fall. But don’t get hopeless here.

Handling tangled hair can be really messy, time taken, and painful, you need a solution to get rid of this hair condition. And that’s why HealthShots got in touch with Dr. Rinky Kapoor, Consultant Dermatologist, Cosmetic Dermatologist and Dermato-Surgeon, The Esthetic Clinics.

Dr Kapoor says, we all can’t help but be highly impressed by the images of onscreen stars waking up in the morning with perfect, shiny hair. But alas, most of us wake up with tangles and frizzy hair all over the place. Worry not, solving the tangled hair problem is actually quite easy.

Tips to wake up with tangle-free hair

1. Switch pillowcases to silk

The most healthy step you can take in order to prevent tangled hair during the night is to switch the cotton pillowcase to a silk pillowcase. Cotton and other materials cause friction and also rob the hair of essential natural oils, making them dry and prone to tangling. A silk pillowcase or a silk scarf around the scalp will give you smooth looking tresses in no time!

2. Tie a loose braid

Before going to bed, divide your hair into sections and tie a loose braid using a silk scrunchie. This will help distribute the oils throughout the hair and prevent tangling.

3. Lightly oil the hair tips

If your hair is prone to tangle then you should apply oil, doing so can help reduce frizziness and breakage. Moreover, oiling can keep hair hydrated, improves hair growth, prevent dandruff and offers shine and glow. Hair oiling is most beneficial when the oil is left in the hair overnight

4. Keep room temperature normal

Keep the room temperature to normal as it will prevent hair getting drying. It’s important because summer heat can make your hair dry and rough and winter can also be hard on your hair. But staying at a normal temperature prevents hair from dehydrating and breaking.

5. Brush your hair

Gently brush your hair downward every night. But untangle your hair gently with fingers first and then comb through. Even in the morning, brush gently downward through the knots. You can also use detangling products to separate the tangles.

6. Use conditioner

Always condition your hair after shampooing. There is no excuse for not conditioning. Use a suitable conditioner according to your hair type. Conditioners lock in the moisture and prevent tangling as you toss and turn.

7. Avoid heat treatments

Heat styling tools like curling irons, straighteners or blow dryers can impact your delicate locks. So avoid heat treatments and if you have to take such treatments then make sure that you use a hydrating hair mask twice a week to keep the tresses smooth and knot free.
