Botulinum toxin, better known as botox, has gained immense popularity in recent times as a treatment to improve appearance by relaxing muscles that cause wrinkles. Celebrities and social media influencers are openly talking about this treatment, thereby making this skin treatment more acceptable and even desirable. While botox for skin works on reducing signs of ageing, like wrinkles and fine lines, hair botox is a completely different process.

For the unversed, botox for hair does not actually use botulinum toxin and is not an injectable procedure. It rather just borrows the name ‘botox’ which uses a topical deep conditioning treatment to repair damaged tresses. Still confused? Let’s go through the trendy hair treatment in detail to get the facts right.

What is hair botox?

Hair botox is a deep conditioning hair treatment that intensely repairs damaged and broken fragile hair ends. The damage could be due to a number of factors, the major one being chemical treatments or repeated use of heating tools. The name botox is used for this procedure as it gives you a smoother and shinier hair look.

Benefits of hair botox

The therapy straightens your hair using formaldehyde-free and non-chemical straightening ingredients. It’s actually a deep-conditioning procedure that involves coating your hair to get rid of the frizz and breakage and improve the look of dull, damaged hair. The therapy smoothens the keratin layer of hair along with restoring its softness with the help of caviar oil, a hydrating agent. B5 or vitamin moisturizes and hydrates the hair strands improving shine. Lastly, a collagen complex rich in healthy proteins improves hair strength and restores softness.

How is hair botox treatment different from others?

The therapy differs from actual injectables used in dermatology wherein the botulinum toxin is injected into the scalp to reduce sweating and oil secretion in order to reduce the amount you need to shampoo and prevent dandruff. The various oils and conditioning agents used as a part of the treatment are meant to restore moisture, smoothen the frizz and make your hair shinier.

Hair botox doesn’t have botox in it at all. And while it does offer some straightening benefits, it is not at par with the actual straightening treatments. Nevertheless, it gives excellent results to help rebuild and thicken areas in your hair fiber to give them a voluminous and bouncy feel.

Tips to keep in mind after hair botox

As we know, even the smallest of treatments need to follow up with their own set of maintenance requisites for a long-lasting effect. Likewise, hair botox also needs some degree of maintenance. Surprisingly, the hassle-free procedure is relatively less demanding. With a little bit of care which includes using a pH-balanced shampoo and conditioner post-treatment, you can enjoy long-term results. And that’s not all, the deep conditioning therapy is suitable for all hair types.

If you are allergic to any ingredients or have super fine hair, then you might want to get away with botox. However, before you jump to any conclusions, discuss the pros and cons with your dermatologist.
