While losing a few strands of hair (around 100) every day is normal, massive hair loss can be a devastating problem. You can camouflage a few grey hair strands or ignore a few lines, but losing a chunk of your hair can be way too stressful than any other beauty problem (for most people at least). Did you know that around one-third of women experience female pattern hair loss at some point in their lives? Alopecia is a common condition nowadays, and there are several hair loss treatments out there. But that’s where the confusion begins!

To help those who have been dealing with hair loss and are not able to figure out the right treatment for them, HealthShots reached out to Dr Debraj Shome, Senior Cosmetic Surgeon and Director, The Esthetic Clinics, New Delhi.

Which hair loss treatment is best for you?

While there are several hair loss treatments out there, every single one of these treatments is done according to your condition. Firstly, your doctor will ask you to get some tests done and know your hair care routine, and medical and family history. Here’s a breakdown of the three most popular treatments and who are they best for.

Platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP)

PRP is a three-step medical treatment in which one’s own blood is injected into the affected areas for hair regrowth to stimulate new hair follicles, explains Dr Shome. It improves hair growth and thickness in patients with androgenic alopecia. Sometimes, this treatment is combined with hair loss treatments to give you the best results.

Laser hair growth therapy

Low-level laser therapy is commonly known as red light or cold laser therapy, which exposes scalp tissues to photons. Weak cells absorb these photons to promote hair growth. Dr Shome says this therapy is good for people with androgenic alopecia, which is common in males and females. People with androgenic alopecia will experience hair loss at the top of their heads or around their hairlines. You should only go for this therapy if your doctor advises, adds the expert.

Hair transplant

Hair transplant is performed to help regrow hair in balding or thinning areas of the scalp. It involves taking hair from other parts of your body and grafting them onto the balding areas on your scalp. Hair transplantation helps restore a youthful appearance for those distressed by hair loss, particularly androgenic alopecia, says the doctor.

QR 678

In the past few years, QR 678 has worked for hair regrowth and is Indian FDA-approved. QR678 signifies a quick response to a disease that earlier had no solution. This therapy tackles hair fall and increases the thickness and number, and density of existing hair follicles, offering a greater overage to the ones with alopecia. Moreover, the polypeptides used in the therapy are present in scallops full of hair (they tend to get decreased in scalps that have hair fall) it is the enrichment of the scalp skin with these polypeptides which causes hair growth.

Which hair loss treatment is best for you?

While the best hair loss treatments depend on the kind of hair loss you are suffering from, there is one that could give the best and desired results in most cases. Dr Shome that one should opt for QR 678 therapy to get the best and desired results. For starters, “QR 678 does not have any side effects as it is locally administered over the scalp sink by mesotherapy and is not absorbed into the systemic circulation.

The QR 678 is a non-invasive, non-surgical, safer, and reasonably priced therapy similar to currently existing hair transplant techniques, including Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). In addition to the drug being provided, the process will require 6–8 sessions. Both male pattern baldness and female pattern hair loss respond favourably to this treatment.

It has shown encouraging results in post-chemotherapy-induced hair loss treatment for other hair conditions like seborrheic dermatitis, and immunogenic diseases like alopecia areata, adds the expert.

While the doctor suggests that one should opt for QR 678 if they have the option to treat hair transplant, you should only choose it when suggested by your doctor.
