There are multiple ingredients available at home that can do wonders for your skin. Turns out, even the discarded water after soaking or boiling rice can be used for enhancing skin’s health.

In fact, if you’re someone who is aware of Japanese or Korean skincare routines, then you know that rice water is the secret of various popular beauty ingredients. It has been used for generations in order to achieve glowing and smooth skin.

So, let’s find out what rice water can do for your skin:
1. Rice water has anti-ageing benefits

Rice water is rich in amino acids, antioxidants and minerals which may reduce or slow down the skin ageing process. It could also inhibit the activity of elastase, an enzyme responsible for skin ageing. Thus, rice water could help maintain skin elasticity and can reduce the appearance of ageing signs on the skin.

2. It can brighten your skin

One of the key functions of rice water is to brighten the skin and provide an even skin tone. It keeps your skin healthy, glowing and clear.

3. It can boost skin barrier health

The outermost layer of skin is known as a skin barrier that prevents your skin from becoming dried up and vulnerable to conditions like eczema and atopic dermatitis. However, using rice water on the face enables its starch content to protect the skin barrier naturally.

4. It soothes sunburn and irritation

Sun damage like sunburn, inflammation, redness and itching can be relieved by applying starchy rice water. The cooling effect can soothe the sunburned skin and can reduce tanning.

5. Rice water can reduce oiliness

Those with oily skin can rinse with rice water because its astringent effects help to reduce oiliness and protect the skin from pimples and acne.
