Ladies, caring for your skin is like starting a savings account. The earlier you start, the more benefits you reap later on. This is exactly why it’s important to start taking care of your finances and well, your skin, in your 20s.

“You see, year after year, your skin cell turnover slows down and the skin’s collagen reserves start depleting, both of which result in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles,” warns Mumbai-based dermatologist and aesthetic physician, Dr Pallavi Sule.

“Though this skin ageing is an inevitable process, it is really important to take good care of your skin in your 20s, as that will determine how your skin will behave later in life,” she adds.

The good news here is that this skincare regime doesn’t have to be expensive as the following home remedies can help you prevent wrinkles early on:

1. Banana-yogurt-honey anti-ageing face masque

“Take one mashed banana, one-fourth cup of plain yogurt, and two tablespoons of honey. Mix them together till the paste becomes creamy and consistent,” suggests Seema Nanda, founder of Estetico – The Facial Bar in NCR.

“Bananas are packed with anti-ageing properties and vitamins and can ward off signs of aging,” she explains. Nanda recommends applying this paste on your face for 10 to 30 minutes, twice a week.

2. Almond and milk masque

“Soak 10 almonds in milk overnight. Grind them in a mixer-grinder while slowly adding one-fourth cup of milk to obtain a smooth paste,” says Nanda.

Apply the paste on your face and gently exfoliate. Leave it on for about 20 minutes. Once it dries, wash it off with water and pat your face dry.

This mask is rich in vitamin E, folic acid, oleic acid, hydroxy acids, zinc, and antioxidants–all of which promote collagen production and prevent wrinkles,” she adds.

3. Tomato juice soak

According to Dr Sule, tomato juice tightens the skin and helps shrink pores. She recommends applying it twice a week, leaving it on for 10-15 minutes, before rinsing it off with water.

4. Fresh aloe pulp moisturiser

Pluck an aloe vera leaf from your kitchen garden, scoop out its pulp, and massage it into your face. Doing so can moisturise your skin deeply according to Sule, and y’all know the more you hydrate the less likely you are to be bothered by lines and wrinkles.
