If you think your hair growth has been stalled, don’t feel crushed. We have a list of yoga poses that are known to grow hair faster and accelerate their volume too! These simple yoga asanas will ensure that you’re able to grow hair faster while improving its appearance, strength, and health.

HealthShots spoke to Isabelle Karan, a healer, yoga trainer, Meditation and Pranayama expert, and owner of Sabel Yoga and Wellness to know about yoga asanas that accelerate your hair growth.

Here are 4 yoga asanas to grow hair faster and increase their volume:

1. Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward facing dog pose)

This beautiful and strong pose is weight-bearing and will strengthen your arms and legs. It also opens the sides of your body and hence increases the opening in the lungs. An increase in oxygen in the entire system can be achieved by doing this asana. The blood flow into the brain increases because of gravity. The flow of oxygenated blood to the brain strengthens the hair follicles and helps to grow hair faster.

This can have a positive effect on the scalp. Wherever blood flow is increased, cleansing and nourishing can occur in the hair. Scalp regeneration and healing will also take place. The pituitary gland in the brain, also called the master gland, regulates many physical functions such as metabolism, growth, and sexual maturity. The increased blood flow in the brain during Downward dog pose will benefit this master gland too. It can have a positive effect on hormonal imbalances. This in turn can influence hair growth in a positive way.

2. Child’s Pose (Balasana)

Balasana is a rejuvenating pose. It has a positive affect on the ankles and hips, and it beautifully stretches the entire back. During the child’s pose, we are asked to let go and sink deeply into the ground. While at it, we can let go of responsibilities and whatever else is blocking our path and relax our mind.

This immense relief from stress, calms and cools the mind. The nervous system gets into a state of regeneration, and this has a positive effect on the adrenal glands and the reproductive glands. This in turn can benefit our hair health and give faster hair growth.

3. Kapalbhati

Kapalbhati is a cleansing technique with tremendous benefits. The rhythmic breathing and stomach movement cleanses the internal organs and leads to an increase in blood circulation. Regeneration and rejuvenation resulting from regular practice of Kapalbhati is unbeatable!

What one observes immediately after the practice, is a calm and focused mind. This pose has an immediate effect on the nervous system, which brings it at ease and promotes regeneration in the entire body, mind and soul. Through its rejuvenating effect, hormonal imbalances that lead to hair loss can be corrected as well, and hair growth can be positively stimulated.

4. Shoulder stand (Sarvangasana)

This beautiful asana is known to have a tremendous calming effect. It is usually practiced at the end of a yoga practice because it facilitates the nervous system to shift into the parasympathetic mood, which is deeply regenerative. In Sarvangasana, the chin moves closer to the chest (chin lock) and the Thyroid gland gets squeezed.

This first leads to a decrease in blood circulation. But the minute you release the pose, there is a tremendous increase in blood flow into the thyroid gland which can have a very positive effect on the thyroid and hence on the hair growth. Feet over head is the best detox. All the blood from the legs can flow into the abdomen and get purified. This detox again can have a positive effect on your overall health and hair health, and hence also grow hair faster.

5. Headstand (Sirsasana)

Like Sarvangasana, the inverted position of the legs has a tremendous detoxifying effect. But other than in Sarvangasana, try Sirsasana. In this pose, the flow of blood is not obstructed by the bend in the neck, and hence there is a tremendous increase in blood flow to the brain. This has a positive effect on the pituitary and pineal gland. It stimulates the lymphatic flow in a positive way, and it calms the nervous system. All of it put together offers a tremendous benefit for hair and makes your hair stronger.

Stimulating Liver meridian can also help grow hair faster and longer:

The liver meridian is partly responsible for growth, detox and it influences the sexual organs in a positive way. Our hands have electromagnetic properties and hence, tracing the liver meridian gently with your hands has a stimulating effect.
Doing this regularly strengthens and purifies the entire body and it can have a positive effect on hair growth.

Essential oil to accelerate hair growth:

A beautiful blend to support the liver meridian would be:

  1. 5 drops of roman chamomile
  2. 5 drops of Bergamot
  3. 3 drops of Blue Tansy
  4. 15ml of a Jojoba Oil or Fractionated Coconut oil as a base oil

This mix can be used for calming the mind, harmonizing and activating the liver energy. It can be used to trace the liver meridian or be placed a little bit at the wrist, behind the ears or on the soles of your feet for a rejuvenated effect.
