Don’t we all want healthy skin? And in order to achieve it, we are ready to do whatever it takes—like moisturising our skin for that perfect glow! We all know that keeping our skin nourished is really important as it protects the skin’s healthy cells. But what happens when you get a bit excessive with your moisturising routine?

Well, over moisturising your skin can cause many skin problems. When you use too much moisturiser, your skin produces less moisture on its own. This means that underneath the layer of creams and such, your skin is dry.

Now you might be wondering how to tell whether or not you are over-moisturising your skin. Well, here are five signs that indicate it’s time to rethink your skincare routine:

1. Your pores are clogged

Clogged pores are the most immediate sign of over moisturising. Too much moisturiser or heavy formulations can clog your pores, because of which you end up with blackheads and whiteheads.

2. You have acne and breakouts

Excessive moisturizer use can cause pimples or breakouts on the skin. Your skin absorbs what it needs and the extra product just sits on top of your face. This greasy layer attracts dirt and bacteria, which then gets accumulated in the pores and causes acne.

3. Your sebum production has gone haywire

If your skin is already oily, then over-moisturizing it can trigger the body to produce more oil. This means more acne and blackheads.

4. Your skin has become dry

This may sound strange, but it is true. Using too much product can make your skin sensitive, dry, and dull

5. You have small bumps all over your face

Small bumps are common symptoms of over moisturising. And they often come with redness, irritation, and/or rashes.

So if you find yourself battling acne, breakouts, clogged pores, and bumps all of a sudden—it’s a sign that you’re moisturising too much, and you need to stop!
