I say, a good oil massage is better than an orgasm! Getting a massage not only feels like flying on a cloud but scientifically, it releases endorphin, a happy hormone. That’s the reason nobody can frown while getting those pressure points triggered. While there’s a long list of body oiling benefits, the one we love the most is that it boosts the mood like watching Sex and the City on repeat!

However, not to divulge from the subject, oiling these 5 points of your body will deliver similar effects. They are known to improve physical health and help with stress management too!

To dive deep into the benefits that this practice offers, HealthShots spoke to Dr Nivedita Dadu, a renowned dermatologist.

Reap body oiling benefits by massaging these 5 points of your body:

1. Knees

A killer knee and joint pain can disrupt your daily life. But there are ways to feel better. Massaging the knees with a plant-based essential oil, along with over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription medications might help.

“Essential oils have been around for thousands of years. Using them for therapeutic or medicinal reasons is called aromatherapy. Through oiling on the knees daily, they get into your bloodstream as you put the oil on your skin or breathe it in.” says Dr Dadu.

She further adds “Oiling also helps to improve the tone and increase the overall flexibility of the muscles that lend support and stability to the affected knee. It can positively relieve pain, stiffness, and improve overall day-to-day functioning in individuals dealing with osteoarthritis in their knees.”

2. Navel

Applying oil on navel heals, corrects and balances our nervous connections in the body. If you oil it daily and massage it with care, it is believed to be good for improving fertility in both men and women. A pro tip: This may help in improving the sperm count of your partner!

Dr Dadu suggests, “Oiling the belly button may reduce any kind of inflammation, remove all free radicals, cure skin infections and moisturize the skin from the core. For voluminous and healthy hair, massage coconut oil, olive oil or jojoba oil on your belly button regularly.”

Your belly button is connected to 72,000 veins inside us that helps the body absorb all essential minerals of different types from the oils. Stimulating the navel with circular motions can calm your mind, provide relaxation, balance your emotions and enhance concentration.”

3. Elbows

Tanning and darkening of elbows is one of the most difficult and stubborn areas from where removing these black spots becomes a task. Oiling on the elbows on a regular interval oil helps to moisturize the skin and removes tanning and dark patches.

4. Toe nails

Incorporating applying oil onto the toe nails helps to hydrate and strengthen the nails and amp up their shine and growth. Fungal nail infections tend to occur in individuals that have reduced blood circulation to the feet and a weakened immune system.

Nails that are brittle and dry can have resulting cracks in the nail, which allow fungi to enter. The best way to actually prevent nail fungus is to keep brittle, cracked nails moisturized. Therefore, oiling can be a great preventative option to decrease the likelihood of a toenail fungal infection.

“Coconut oil is great for treating brittle and cracked toenails as well as damaged cuticles because of its moisturizing properties. It’s an ideal skin barrier that contains multiple fatty acids, which act as transepidermal water loss barriers. Oiling may help get the cuticles back in tip-top shape,” adds Dr. Dadu.

5. Feet

The irregularity of walking and long hours of sitting can lead to disruption in proper blood circulation to our feet. In order to keep your feet healthy, oiling helps to maintain the blood circulation. Oiling your feet before bed helps in unwinding and offers a relaxed sleep. It gets rid of tension and relaxes the nerves.

“Our feet contain several acupuncture points that induce sleep. When you massage the feet with oil, you also activate these acupuncture points. Hence, with increased blood circulation and relaxed nerves, a good night’s sleep is ensured.”

Applying oil at night locks the moisture in the feet and prevents drying of the skin. Massaging your feet with oil regularly prevents cracked heels as it removes the dead skin and thus, keeps your feet soft and supple.

This habit of oiling these 5 points of your body will amp up your health in many ways. Try this at any time of the day. However, nothing beats a relaxed massage at night. Ask your partner to assist you in it for some added romance bonus!
