One of the most perplexing things about turning 30 for me has to be dealing with my skin. You see, I was once an oily-skinned gal with zits popping up left, right, and centre. While in my late 20s, I managed to (finally!) get my acne under control, the two years that I have spent in my 30s have just thrown me off-guard.

Far from the flawless skin I had been working so hard for, I am actually stuck with a dry visage—still prone to acne, by the way—and an annoyingly uneven texture. You don’t need to be in my skin to understand just how confusing this situation can be.

For months, I experimented with creams and oils for dry skin, only to wake up to pimples and enlarged pores!

So there I was trying to decide what’s worse—acne at 31 or dry, stretchy skin—when a friend recommended the Kama Ayurveda Organic Moringa Oil. Desperate to try out just about anything, I bought myself a bottle, promptly started applying it, and saw my skin transform day after day.

It made my skin soft and supple right from the get-go

Right from the first application I noticed how supple my skin had become—just like a baby’s bottom. My pores weren’t clogged or enlarged like they usually get when I apply coconut oil. And the abundant zits on my face didn’t change their size or shape either.

A week after I first started using the oil is when I started noticing the bigger changes on my face. The patch of rough and dry skin on my forehead had now ceased to exist. By this time, the oil had also somehow managed to make a cluster of small bumps between my eyebrows disappear.

However, the best part about this oil for me has to be the fact that its results are long-lasting. And I am just not talking about how your skin feels through the course of the day. Rather, even if you skip the product for a couple of days in between—like I did—the suppleness that it lends your skin doesn’t really vanish.

This is how I have been using the product

Since this is my first tryst with the Kama Ayurveda Organic Moringa Oil, I have been following the instructions on the bottle, which basically says that this oil needs to be washed off after application.

This oil is the first thing I use on my face in the morning. After washing my face with water (and gently drying it with a towel), I apply two pumps of the oil all over my face and neck. I like to really massage it in using circular motions—especially because this technique helps to unclog the gunk in your pores and loosen dead skin cells.

I leave it on for about 45 minutes to an hour, after which I wash it off with a gentle non-foaming cleanser, and apply a day cream. Et voila!

The packaging of the product gives it all away. This cold-pressed oil is meant to hydrate your skin—and in that regard it does a fabulous job. Moringa oil is rich in oleic acid, which penetrates deep inside the skin and replenishes lost moisture.

The great part is that this naturally-occurring acid also fights against lines and wrinkles, making this oil a good choice if you are in your 30s, looking to build an anti-ageing skincare arsenal.

Moringa oil also has anti-inflammatory properties, which many studies suggest can help with acne breakouts. However, in my case, the daily application of the oil did nothing to cure me of the zits on my cheeks and chin. But then again, the oil didn’t aggravate them either—which given the current silky-smooth state of my skin is good enough for me.

So, should you buy it?

Am I impressed with this oil? Absolutely! Will I recommend you to buy it? Well, it depends. If you have dry and dull skin, then this can really work wonders. That said, it might not suit every type.

If you have oily or sensitive skin, I would recommend doing a patch test first before slathering it on your skin. And if severe acne, dermatitis, or any other skincare condition plagues you—I would suggest that you talk to a dermatologist before taking a plunge.
