Can you guess the name of one of the most popular breakfasts? Well yes, we’re talking about healthy oats! Oats is a superfood that is commonly eaten as a breakfast option, because it is packed with nutrients such as dietary fibre, minerals and vitamins that can enhance your health.

In addition to this, oatmeal can also come in handy for a host of skin and beauty needs. The antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties present in oats help to rejuvenate the skin, thereby helping you remove dead skin cells. It also contains vitamins and protein, which helps to keep your skin healthy.

Here are some benefits of oatmeal for skin:
1. Gently exfoliates the skin

Oatmeal flakes are better for a homemade exfoliating scrub. And not just face, you can use it to exfoliate your body as well. It contains saponins that gently exfoliate your skin, removing dead skin cells and revealing smooth skin that’s underneath all that hard-to-see build-up from excess oil and dirt.

2. Relieves itchy skin

Oatmeal contains avenanthramides, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds that soothes itchy, dry, and irritated skin. Remember those oatmeal baths you had to take when you got chickenpox as a child? All for good reason!

3. Moisturises your skin

Oatmeal imparts moisturising, soothing, conditioning, and nourishing qualities, significantly improving skin dryness and roughness. It is packed with protein and vitamin E, which makes it great for your skin and body. No wonder, oatmeal keeps your skin hydrated and glowing!

4. Treats acne

Oatmeal works wonders for acne-prone skin. It can soak up the excess oil on your skin and help treat acne. Plus, it contains zinc that is said to reduce inflammation and kill the acne-causing bacterial action. Also, oatmeal is suited for all skin types, including sensitive and problematic skin, such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis.

5. Deeply cleansing

A great benefit of oatmeal for skin: it can exfoliate dead skin cells. It may also help open and deep cleanse pores because of saponin content, clearing away blackheads, and absorbing excess oil from the skin. It’s known as a natural cleanser!

6. Improves skin complexion

Oats help prevent acne and improve your complexion. It ensures bacterial balance on your skin, while the moisturising effect gives you that healthy complexion. If you have age spots, acne scars, and skin discoloration, try oatmeal!

Here’s how to use oatmeal for skin
1. Make an oatmeal face mask

You can make a skin-healthy oatmeal mask with just a few steps. For instance, mix one cup of milk and one tablespoon of honey with two cups of oats. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and even. Apply this paste on your skin and leave it on for about 15 minutes and then rinse with cool water. For best results, use the face mask 3-4 times a week.

2. Add oatmeal to your bath

Add one cup of oatmeal to your lukewarm bath water with a few scoops of baking soda. Sit in the tub for 15 minutes. After the bath, gently pat yourself dry, so your skin still feels damp. Make sure you don’t soak in for too long, otherwise your skin will dry out. That’ll make your itch worse.
