You always need to be extra careful with your skin. Just as there are hundreds of solutions available for your skin problems, there are millions of things that can affect your skin. One pertains to your workout! No matter whether you workout at home or at the gym, having a workout skincare routine is important.

Although exercise can improve the health and appearance of your complexion, working out with dirt, debris, or even make-up on can wreak havoc on your skin. And don’t forget that the post workout skincare routine is equally important because you’re likely all sweaty, which can irritate your skin and also result in acne.

Pre Workout Routine
Step 1 – Remove Make-up

Before you get your workout on, you will want to make sure that you start fresh. And working out with make-up is a complete no-no. Dr Sharad said, “You can’t go to a workout with make-up on. You have to remove it because sweat with make-up will clog your pores. This could lead to infection or rashes or even acne, black and white heads.”

Step 2 – Cleansing

After removing the make-up, cleansing is the second most important skincare routine step. Choose a type of cleanser according to your skin and gently wash your face. This will help you remove excess sebum and dirt and leaves your skin feeling clean and fresh.

Step 3 – Moisturize

When you sweat, you will dehydrate and the skin dehydrates too. That’s why you need to moisturise your skin. Dr Sharad suggests applying moisturizer followed by sunscreen.

Step 4 – Sunscreen

Many people question applying both moisturiser and sunscreen. Yasmin asked Dr Sarad about the same in the video. She explained that you can use a sunscreen which has a moisturizer in it to solve a dual purpose.

Remember to carry a thermal water mist to use during the workout.

Post Workout Routine
Step 1 – Wash your hands

If you exercise at a gym, you’re bound to be exposed to sweaty clothes, germ-ridden exercise equipment, or both. So, first go and wash your hands because you touched all the equipment and you don’t want any bacteria and microorganisms from there.

Step 2 – Have a Shower

Then, you take a shower. You have to change your clothes immediately because you don’t want to be in sweaty clothes for long as it can lead to fungus and bacterial infections.

Step 3 – Moisturizer+Sunscreen

Now you moisturize your skin after your shower. Dr Sharad says that one must not forget to apply sunscreen on the face but on all the exposed parts of the body.
