If there’s one thing we need to thank Kylie Jenner for, it is for making lip care a thing. Ladies, there’s no need to pretend like you haven’t completely ignored your lips in the past. While the skin on your face has been pampered with the best scrubs and moisturizers, your lips haven’t received that care in spite of needing it. From dryness to the harm caused by biting out of nervousness, your lips have suffered enough and need some care.

Just like the skin on your face, your lips require scrubbing as well. It helps shed away the dead skin cells, provides a more smooth look, and keeps your lips soft. This, in turn, can actually help you look fresh. And guess what? You don’t even need any fancy scrubs because your kitchen cabinet houses all the secret ingredients that can make for the most effective lip scrubs.

Here are five lip scrubs that can give you the smooth, supple lips you want:

1. Honey and sugar lip scrub
Mix two teaspoons of sugar with one teaspoon of honey to make this scrub. Rub it on your lips gently and leave it on for 10 minutes before washing it off. Sugar makes for a good exfoliator that gets rid of dead skin while honey is known for its hydrating as well as healing properties that can help treat the problem of dry lips. And let’s be honest, this makes for quite a yummy lip scrub with all that sweetness.

2. Coffee and olive oil
There are many who swear by coffee and how it is the magic elixir that they need to wake up in the morning. Turns out, it is also magical for your lips. Two teaspoons of coffee with one teaspoon of olive oil, when used as a lip scrub, can give you moisturized lips. Rich in antioxidants, coffee acts as a great exfoliator that not only clears up the dead skin but also rejuvenates the skin. Olive oil acts as a great moisturizer for the sensitive skin of your lips.

3. Lemon, sea salt and coconut oil
Lemon is full of vitamin C which lends a glow to the skin, while coconut oil’s antioxidant properties contribute to an even skin tone and sea salt makes for a powerful exfoliator that gets rid of dead, dry skin. Mix the juice of one lemon with half a teaspoon of salt and one teaspoon of coconut oil. Scrub this on your lips very gently and wash. This will leave your lips smooth and moisturized.

4. Cinnamon and honey
Cinnamon, or dalchini as we all know it, has properties that bring about better blood circulation that can contribute to healthier skin as well as an even skin tone. Honey, as mentioned, has properties that help moisturize as well as heal. Scrub your lips with a mix of half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey. You can leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes before washing. When applied to dry and discoloured lips, this can be extremely helpful.

5. Orange peel and almond oil
The high content of vitamin C in orange peels makes it not just a good exfoliator but also the perfect remedy for dark and discoloured lips. Grind dried out orange peel and add a couple of drops of almond oil to it to make the perfect lip scrub. Almon oil, too, has properties that brighten the skin and contribute to an even skin tone.
