Time must never be your excuse to miss a workout session! And that is also one of the reasons why celebrity trainers keep pushing social media content around bite-sized or quick workouts! It is all so that in our busy day-to-day lives – at home or at work – are able to still devote time to the body! But if you’re short on time, and want an effective workout, you could perhaps take a cue from popular fitness expert Namrata Purohit!

Namrata recently took to her Instagram handle to share a picture in which she is seen using Electro Muscle Stimulation (EMS).

What is EMS after all? Come, let’s find out

According to Namrata, it is a “time efficient tough and super effective workout!”

She explained its mechanism in layman terms through her caption.

“EMS stands for Electro Muscular Stimulation. Technically, EMS is a total body workout with body current. In this context, it might be helpful to know that our muscles contract through electric impulses (bioelectronics) in normal state. The EMS training makes use of this effect,” Namrata shared.

What does EMS do?

The result? Well, “With just 20 minutes you can get a workout as effective as almost 4 strength training workouts”, added Namrata, who trains celebs like Sara Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor.

For the effective results it gives, Namrata finds it “really amazing” and she loves it!

Things to remember about EMS workout

EMS is not a new phenomenon. While it has been serving as a vital tool for physiotherapy, its use in the fitness world as a muscle-strengthening mechanism has gained momentum.

A ‘Review of the use of electro-motor stimulation in human muscles’, cited on Science Direct, mentions that Russian investigator Yakov Kots had suggested that EMS may be superior to voluntary exercise in developing muscle strength in weakened musculature and also in those muscles functioning at normal strength levels.

Nevertheless, what we must remember is that there is no shortcut to fitness. And it must be a result of a sustainable healthy diet, combined with an active lifestyle. And nothing beats the adrenaline rush of an HIIT workout, isn’t it? Try this 15-minute workout if you want.

According to experts, certain people with health conditions should not use EMS. These include pregnant women, people with pacemakers or any metal in the body, those with neurological problems, diabetics, patients with impaired sensation, skin irritation, open wounds or blood clots.
