One can’t help but admire Esha Gupta for making a space for herself in an industry that is known for nepotism. We’ve seen her in hits like Rustom, Raaz 3D and Total Dhamaal. Needless to say, she has won several hearts! Turns out, Esha’s dedication and hard work extend to her fitness space as well.

One scroll of her Instagram page will make you realize that she’s a fitness freak and works hard to maintain that gorgeous figure. Recently, she posted a picture of herself doing the king pigeon pose which is a difficult asana. The caption said, “ॐ The mind is restless and difficult to restrain, but it is subdued by practice- Bhagavad Gita.”

Check out the post here:

Esha is absolutely right when she says you definitely need practice to get into this pose. Before you begin your practice, steer clear of these 4 common mistakes:
  1. Understand that your thighs do not need to touch the ground. The important thing here to note is that your hips should point forward to keep your weight even on both sides. It will help you avoid injury.
  2. Pigeon pose might prove to be tough, especially on your legs and ankles. Allow your feet to flex and stabilize your ankles. Not doing so can get really uncomfortable for you.
  3. Do not tense up your neck or shoulder muscles. You need to relax your neck and shoulders while allowing your head to be heavy. If you don’t do this consciously, you might end up with soreness.
  4. Don’t put your foot under your knees as it puts added pressure and can get really uncomfortable. Keep your foot under your thighs since it will make the pose more comfortable.

There’s no doubt that the king pigeon pose is difficult but it has multiple benefits as well. Here are 4 benefits to motivate you to practice this asana:
  1. It stretches out your chest and shoulders: With regular practice, your chest and shoulders open up, improving the functioning of organs such as the heart and lungs.
  2. It stimulates internal abdominal organs, including liver, pancreas, and kidney. This improves their functioning as well.
  3. It is a great whole-body stretch because it effectively stretches every part of your body.
  4. It tones your muscles. This asana targets your hip, thighs, calves, hamstring, pelvic, chest, abdomen, shoulders and neck muscles.

Tone and stretch your body just like Esha with the kind pigeon pose!
