Actress Shruti Haasan is quite vocal about her opinions on social media and this time, she has revealed her battle with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis in her latest Instagram post. Opening up about how she’s dealing with the two disorders, Haasan asserts how important it is to be positive about life and find out ways to deal with health issues like these.

She captioned the post, “I’ve been facing some of the worst hormonal issues with my PCOS and endometriosis.” Shruti also explains how it’s a tough fight for all the women out there who are battling hormonal imbalance, bloating and metabolic challenges. She further motivated women by saying that rather than looking at it as a fight, “I choose to accept it as a natural movement that my body goes through to do its best and I say ‘thank you’ by eating right, sleeping well and enjoying my work out.”

In the video posted by her, Haasan can be seen in a gym, while she performs a variety of exercises — from yoga to stretches and doing a combination of bodyweight exercises, cardio, and working on the core. She adds, “My body isn’t perfect right now but my heart is. Keep fit, keep happy and let those happy hormones flow!!!”

As Haasan says, eating right and staying fit are the two most important factors in battling the disorders, most of us often use PCOS and endometriosis interchangeably or people get confused between them. However, both of them are different.

So how is PCOS different from endometriosis?

PCOS

PCOS is a hormonal condition, which is commonly seen in women of reproductive age group. It often leads to menstrual irregularities, mood swings, acne, hirsutism, and obesity as women who suffer from PCOS tend to have higher levels of male hormones (androgens).

It is a disorder that occurs when the tissue similar to the tissue that forms the lining of the uterus can grow outside the uterus, Endometriosis can affect the fallopian tubes and ovaries. Usually, the endometrial tissue thickens, breaks down and bleeds with each menstrual cycle. However, with endometriosis, it gets trapped inside the body causing scarring. It can cause menstrual cramps, back pain, inter menstrual pain, painful intercourse, and infertility.

Is it possible to have both conditions simultaneously?

Yes, it is possible to have both conditions at the same time, like in the case of Haasan. In case of that, the woman can feel anxious, stressed, depressed, and frustrated. It’s important to visit a doctor, in case of such a situation.
