The year 2019 witnessed a number of fad diets, out of which, two regimens captured the imaginations of Indians to a significant extent. Wondering which ones they were? The high-fat, low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting diet stole the show, reveals a survey by domestic health and fitness app HealthifyMe.

Creating a storm in the health and nutrition circuit, both these diets were said to have their own share of pros and cons.

The intermittent fasting diet is suitable for those looking for fat loss, especially when a person is involved in a consistent workout routine.

This particular fasting regimen falls under two categories: daily time-restricted feeding, which narrows eating times to 6-8 hours per day, and so-called 5:2 intermittent fasting, in which people limit themselves to one moderate-sized meal two days each week.

On the other hand, the ever-famous ketogenic diet was primarily designed for people with epilepsy. However, it is now being used for other conditions as well, including weight loss, polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), acne, endurance athletes and also for other nervous disorders.

Keto diet can’t be used as a long term diet for weight loss as it is very rigid and too much fat can cause serious complications.

Vegan diet
Vegans primarily include all plant-based foods in their diet and refrain from consuming meat, fish, dairy, or eggs. While this can be good for people with allergies or intolerances, it can lead to nutritional deficiencies, especially vitamin B12 and protein.

Carb cycling diet
If you’re a fitness junkie, you are most likely to be aware of this diet trend that is doing the rounds across the internet lately.

Carb cycling diet is popular among bodybuilders, fitness competitors and certain athletes who are looking to shed body fat and increase muscle mass.

This dietary approach involves planned increases and decreases in carbohydrate intake on different days.

Superfoods that became the talk of the town
Green tea, chia seeds, and turmeric top the charts when it comes to top superfoods consumed in 2019. This is followed by ghee, ragi, and quinoa.

On the other hand, foods like kale or leaf cabbage, wheatgrass, and amla (Indian gooseberry) were not very popular in 2019, as per the survey.
