Haven’t we all been reminded enough number of times to “drink more water every day”? Well, on World Water Day 2022, we thought of giving you another such reminder! The benefits of drinking at least 6-7 glasses range from healthy metabolism to release of toxins and more. If you’re someone who hardly consumes this liquid, read on to know some expert tips on how to increase water intake.

Reduced water intake can lead to dehydration, which can lead to a plethora of health issues such as tiredness, dry mouth, constipation, headache, urine problems, dizziness, et al. To keep these issues at bay, keep your water intake in check.

Celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija took to Instagram on World Water Day to talk about a few simple indicators other than thirst to ensure you drink enough water.

How to identify that you are dehydrated:

1. Reduced sweat:

While it may be natural for you to sweat during hot and humid weather, you may not sweat as much if you are dehydrated. And that is not good for your health, says Makhija.

2. Heart rate

Lack of water in your body can impact your heart rate. So, it becomes an important indicator of dehydration. If there’s a lack of water, the hate rate will increase.

“The lesser water means lesser blood volume which means your
heart has to pump harder which is why you are heart is
beating too fast,” she explains.

3. Skin

Your skin can tell you if you must be thirsty! If you don’t quench your body’s need for thirst, your skin can seem dry, and itchy.

What are the benefits of drinking water?

According to Shah, drinking water during weight loss is crucial because it provides hydration without unwanted calories. “Drinking water also helps in flushing waste from the body,” she says, adding that a minimum of eight glasses of water must be consumed by an average adult.

3 tips on how to increase water intake

1. Use a water tracker:

Use any mobile app to track how much water you are consuming.

2. Eat your water:

Eat fruits and vegetables or hydrating superfoods, especially those are fresh and juicy.

3. Jazz up your water glass:

Add some fruits or herbs in the water. Infuse it with your favuorite fruits! Add some wedges of fruits, and this will also help you to satisfy your cravings.
