Apple cider vinegar (ACV) has been hailed as one of the most healthy drinks. Truth be told, it does have a plethora of benefits such as boosting the metabolism, regulating the appetite, accelerating the fat burning process and promoting healthy skin and hair.

When you win some, you lose some too! In the case of apple cider vinegar, acetic acid is the biggest culprit behind the side effects caused by it. Some of us completely ignore the possible side effects but these could be extremely dangerous in the long run.

1. Risk of gastroparesis

Apple cider vinegar promotes the feeling of fullness which is great because it helps to consume fewer calories but it can also lead to gastroparesis! In this condition, the nerves in the stomach don’t function properly which makes it difficult to empty out the stomach. The condition is common in type 1 diabetes patients and vinegar intake can worsen its symptoms.

2. May cause tooth decay

It’s not a surprise that consuming apple cider vinegar is linked with tooth decay and dental erosion. You may also experience a yellowish tinge to your teeth. What’s more, it can lead to damaged tooth enamel, especially if you’re consuming undiluted vinegar regularly.

3. Low potassium level and bone loss

A low level of potassium can lead to hypokalemia. It is caused because of excess apple cider vinegar consumption. It may also reduce bone mineral density which, in turn, makes bones fragile and prone to breakage. Hence, people with osteoporosis should avoid apple cider vinegar completely.

4. It can cause skin burn

You will people swearing by apple cider vinegar to make the skin healthy. Turns out, it can cause your skin to get burned! This is because of its strong acidic nature which can be problematic for many people. 

5. You may experience esophageal or throat burn

Apple cider vinegar helps reduce appetite and promotes the feeling of fullness, but it can lead to indigestion. This can cause nausea, bloating, vomiting, heartburn, and gas.

8. Low blood sugar level
