Did you know that pomegranate peel can do wonders for our health? We know that pomegranate as a fruit is extremely delicious and healthy, but let’s find out why we need to save its peels too.

Pomegranate has a rich crimson colour and is embedded with ruby-coloured seeds which are oh-so-delicious to eat. This fruit has been known to be healthy as it can help fight anemia, diarrhea, heart diseases, etc. So, we take out the seeds and just eat the healthy and the tasty part. It turns out we have been making a mistake by throwing out the peels.

Benefits of pomegranate peel

To find out about the benefits of pomegranate peel, we reached out to an expert, Dr Jeason K John who has done Bachelor’s in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery and has an MD in Ayurveda. He explained that pomegranate peels are bitter and astringent in taste and can be used to cure a variety of illnesses. “It aids in reducing swelling, inflammations, diarrhea, dysentery, bleeding, improves digestion and tones the liver. It is teeming with antioxidants and works well as a food and pharmaceutical preservative,” says Dr John. He also said that pomegranate peels are actually more healthier than its seeds because of the high antioxidant content.

Here are some health issues for which you can use pomegranate peel:

1. Pomegranate peel for cough

“Pomegranate peel is used in a powdered form with water as a gargle to alleviate sore throats and coughs, according to traditional medical practices,” says Dr John. Numerous studies indicate that pomegranate peel extract has antibacterial qualities that could aid in the treatment of cough and sore throat. So, if you have been troubled by cough then try to have extract or powder of pomegranate peel.

2. Pomegranate peel for acne

Dr John says that “According to Ayurveda, pomegranate peel has antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory qualities. The peel’s abundance of antioxidants aids in warding against diseases and bacteria.” Therefore, pomegranate peel for skin issues can combat skin issues like rashes, pimples, and acne. According to the Ayurvedic expert, pomegranate peels may help remove dead skin cells from your face when used as a face pack or facial scrub.

3. Pomegranate peel for detoxification

“Antioxidants aggressively fight against dangerous chemicals in the body. As a result, pomegranate peel’s strong antioxidant content makes it a valuable tool for body detoxification,” says the expert. Pomegranate peel extract may help with detoxification, claims a research. It is asserted to be especially efficient at detoxifying the body.

4. Pomegranate peel for hair loss and dandruff

According to the expert, pomegranate peels can aid in the prevention of dandruff and fight against hair loss. Powdered pomegranate peel should be combined with hair oil and then rub it completely into the hair’s roots. After two hours of application, you can wash your hair with moderate shampoo or leave it overnight, depending on your preference.

5. Pomegranate peel for chronic diseases

Pomegranate peels may reduce risk factors for long-term illnesses like diabetes and heart disease. Dr John brought our attention to a study which shows that the anti-inflammatory effects of 1,000 mg of pomegranate peel extract helped persons who were overweight or obese with their blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
