Step 2: Unwrap the menstrual cup, and if you are using it for the first time, there is no harm in glazing the rim of the cup with water-based lube to reduce resistance.

Step 3: Now get into a position that you feel is comfortable for the insertion of a menstrual cup. Mostly, people either go into a deep squat or lift a leg to insert it. This can differ from person to person.

Step 4: In the next step to use a menstrual cup, there are again two ways.

Basically, there are three kinds of folds that can help you insert the cup with utmost precision.

C-fold, 7-fold, and U-fold – are the most commonly used folds. Pick the fold you are comfortable with. If you are a first-time user, take your time to make that decision.

Step 5: Now, take a deep breath to relax your muscles and slowly insert the menstrual cup into your vaginal opening (use your hands to move your vaginal lips apart). Try to move the menstrual cup upwards and when you feel it is not going up anymore, release the fold. You will feel it will pop up on its own.

If you feel uncomfortable, remove the cup and try to insert it again.

How to remove a menstrual cup?

Step 1: Usually, you need to remove your menstrual cup after 8 to 12 hours, depending on your blood flow. To remove it, wash your hands, and we would suggest you be on a toilet seat or spread something on the floor to avoid spilling blood.

Step 2: Try to rotate the cup a little to loosen the suction. Once the seal is a little loose, pinch the cup and pull it out.

Step 3: Empty the cup into a toilet and flush the toilet. If you want to re-insert it then use a clean paper to clean it up and re-insert it.

If you don’t want to re-insert it, clean it with a mild soap or wash, dry it up, and pack it properly to reuse it the next time Aunt Flo comes knocking on your door.
