These symptoms show that a woman goes through a lot every month. Sometimes menstruation can be really confusing, you won’t understand when they are reacting normally or not. Since managing periods can be complicated sometimes, one should keep a special eye out for various age related period problems because if you ignore them they can become serious in the future.

Some young girls going through puberty experience irregular menstrual cycles and as you progress through your 40s, you’ll begin the natural transition into menopause which can also lead to changes in your menstrual cycle. The fact is your menstrual cycle will keep adjusting and evolving as you age. Moreover, there are some age related period problems you should be aware of so that you can deal with them accordingly.

To understand this, HealthShots spoke to Dr Payal Narang, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Motherhood Hospital Lullanagar.

According to her, these are 5 age related period problems you must not ignore:

1. Amenorrhoea

Primary amenorrhea is when you don’t get your first period even at the age of 16. This can be worrisome. It can even steal your peace of mind. But amenorrhea is also wherein the periods will stop on a temporary basis. Those who suffer from this condition may face difficulties in getting pregnant.

2. Heavy menses

AIt can be seen in women of every age group. It can be bothersome for women and they need to consult the doctor as soon as possible. You will have to speak to an expert regarding this.

3. Dysmenorrhoea

It is one of the most common issues in women between the ages of 18 and 24 years. You will be shocked to know that most of the severe episodes tend to occur before 25 years of age. There will be unbearable abdominal pain and stomach cramping. Thus, you will not be able to do your daily activities with ease.

4. Menstrual irregularity

This can be seen sometime in your 40s. But some women tend to notice changes in their late 30s. Perimenopause means around menopause. It is the time during which the body makes the transition to menopause. This will be the end of one’s reproductive years. So, there will be an irregular menstrual cycle.
