Thanks to Netflix’s most talked-about series ‘Sex Education’, teenagers and young adults have gained wholesome knowledge about the subject matter. But, the past generations never really received quality sex education. No one ever told us the key things about sex which would have made a huge difference. Hence, we thought that we should take the first step and reveal some of the most exciting facts about sex that might help those for whom it is still a subject shrouded in mystery and myths.

So, here’s your very own sex-o-pedia
1. First-time sex doesn’t always hurt

Well, not always! There are some of you who might have experienced pain during the first time or might have also bled but that isn’t always the case.

“When I had my first intercourse, I couldn’t believe that I didn’t bleed. I was in this limbo that I might have not lost my virginity at all. Later on, I realized that’s not the case,” shared Nitisha, 26, content planner.

2. Condoms do more than preventing unwanted pregnancy.

Do you know they have another job at hand apart from contraception? They are also extremely helpful when it comes to the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and other vaginal infections like yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, etc.

3. Period sex is not gross. In fact, it’s fun.

Yes, it is going to be messy but according to experts and people who have tried it out, it’s great fun too! Actually, period blood acts like natural lubrication.

“I was shocked when I tried period sex because apparently, it helped in relieving my abdomen pain and without a doubt, I felt good as well,” shared Namita Mittal, 32, Homemaker.

4. Popping oral contraceptives isn’t right

You have to be very careful while taking these pills. You can’t keep popping them regularly because it can lead to hormonal imbalance in the body which can lead to irregular periods, dizziness, mood swings, and more.

6. The pull-out method isn’t safe

This is probably the most common method used by those who practice safe sex. But, do you know that even the lubrication mucus can have sperm in it? This can lead to unwanted pregnancy and if your partner has an infection then it can be transferred to you as well. So, don’t think that it’s foolproof.

Even Dr Anju Hajari, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, Surya Hospitals agrees on this.

7. Peeing after sex has many health benefits

“Basically, the bacteria travel from the urethra to the bladder and if not taken into consideration, it can reach the kidneys and lead to renal failure. When you pee after sex, there are chances of the bacteria getting flushed out with the urine”, explains obstetrician and gynaecologist, Dr Manisha Ranjan from Motherhood Hospital, Noida.

8. It’s alright if you didn’t experience an orgasm

Ladies, you need to take a chill pill when it comes to orgasms. The news is that it is not necessary that you orgasm every time you have sex. So, don’t get conscious about it because it is absolutely alright.

9. Sex is a mood booster

Basically, consensual sex helps in releasing happy hormones in your body. This not only brings you closer to your partner but also makes you feel euphoric. That’s why you will notice that post-sex sleep is extremely relaxed. The happy hormones calm your nerves down, relax your body, and induce sleep.

10. Masturbation is totally cool

Even experts believe that it comes with its own set of benefits! You do, however, need to know how much is too much. Too much stimulation of your clit or sexual organs can have really bad implications. It can lead to losing its sensitivity as well. So, practise everything in moderation.
