We understand that penetrative sex doesn’t always offer a “ooh-la-la” moment for women. At times, the pain kills the pleasure streak that you were anticipating. But don’t let this pain press pause on your sex drive, because a few sex positions can help reduce this pain you feel during intercourse.

Not all sex positions are kinky and wild. According to a study published in the journal The BMJ, there are certain sex positions that are capable of minimizing pain. Basically, these positions help in opening up the vaginal path. Also, they don’t allow penetration to be very deep thus reducing pain.

In fact, a book authored by Heather Jeffcoat (a doctor of physical therapy), called Sex Without Pain: A Self Treatment Guide to the Sex Life You Deserve also suggests that sex which is less penetrative in nature is ideal if you feel abrasion and pain down there.

So, here are some sex positions that are can reduce the pain you feel during sexual intercourse:

1. Spooning
Although we prefer it after sex, a spooning position can reduce the pain you’ve been experiencing during intercourse. In this, your buttocks provide cushioning and the penetration of the penis is very shallow. Also, if your partner has a long penis which can obviously result in some pain then this position can work really well.

2. Girl on top
Well, frankly when you are on top you have more control over the movement and depth, and that’s why being on top works if sex is painful for you.

3. Standing positions
When you assume a standing position during intercourse, it becomes very hard to thrust forcefully. As a result your partner is less likely to hit the spot that hurts. These positions might work especially well for women who have endometriosis and feel a lot of pain during sex.

4. Doggy position with a hip lift
Shocked? Well, we were too. While this position is considered very aggressive allowing deep penetration, according to Ms Jeffcoat in her book, if you lift your hips up while in the position it can reduce the pain.

But here’s a head-up for all you ladies: if you still feel the pain then you must visit a doctor and get to the bottom of it.
