Erectile dysfunction happens. That said, despite the available treatment options, men shy away from addressing it—as most of them don’t consider it to be a medical disorder. Rather, they see it as sexual incompetence. This usually becomes the reason for disturbance of balance and harmony in their personal lives, impacting not only them but also their partners.

Experts reveal facts about the high prevalence of this lifestyle disease and how women can play a crucial role in ensuring that their partners get timely and right treatment for ED. The first step is to have an open conversation with your partner and seek medical advice.

Sometimes, men who have ED tend to shy away from accepting the condition and start avoiding intimacy completely which might lead to frustration. This is quite unfortunate because ED can be easily treated.

Before diagnosing ED, it is very important for women to know that erectile dysfunction does not happen because the man is not interested or is incapable of having sex—but there are medical reasons like diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and ischemic heart disease (IHD), and depression that can lead to ED. So, women should talk to their partners about the symptoms and treatment options and focus on managing this condition together”

Things women must know about erectile dysfunction in their partners

1. Health reasons behind ED

Erections are a combination of physical and mental arousal and are influenced by many variables, including physical health. Cardiovascular problems can cause dysfunction in the inner lining of the blood vessels to the genitals, for example. Therefore, high blood pressure and diabetes can impair blood flow to the penis. Changes in the endocrine system, such as reduced testosterone production due to age, genetics, or obesity, can also play a role.

2. ED is a lot more common among men than assumed

As per research, about 30% of men below the age of 40 years and 20% across age groups experience difficulties in getting/maintaining an erection. When men ignore discussing it with their partners the condition remains undiagnosed leading to many other psychological and physical health problems.

3. Erectile dysfunction is treatable

In most cases, treatment is both readily available and successful. It can be treated with medications or with penile prosthesis, and treatment varies depending on the severity of the condition

4. Get educated

Knowing the causes of erectile dysfunction and the treatment options available will lead you to choose something that works best for the both of you. Women must be a part of the doctor appointments, ask questions and take an active role in the treatment process

5. Know that it’s not you

Women may feel that they are part of the problem and take it personally. This is rarely the case. In most cases, there is a physical or emotional reason for erectile dysfunction that does not have to do with you

Erectile dysfunction is a sexual issue that affects both partners in a relationship, and the best way to manage and cope is to work on finding solutions together. Open and honest communication is the foundation to a good sexual relationship.
