Healing is a wonderful word, and can be looked at in various ways. It can mean to recover from a state of being unwell into a healthy state. We often say something that was broken healed, but this sounds like quite a linear event. The World Health Organisation defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” So, in some way or the other, we are all constantly healing.

If we look closely at nature, we can easily understand that everything is constantly transforming. We, as humans, are not just part of nature, we are designed by nature and our body has the incredible ability to constantly transform and heal itself.

Disease and feeling unwell is a process too. It does not happen from one day to the next, and it usually carries a lesson for us to learn. So when do we express our need to heal? We express that need, when our level of suffering has risen above the level of tolerance, which means we have been feeling unwell for quite some time and have dealt with it, in our own way.

The true meaning of healing

For many of us, healing means to get back to how it was before. But I think we are missing out and in many ways, we are blocking deeper transformation, if we look at healing with this expectation. I believe every being has a tremendous potential, is uniquely beautiful, and just waiting to be expressed. To me, healing is getting to know who we are, bringing our light into this world and making every moment a moment of learning, of light, of discovery and love.

Starting your own personal healing journey means, to get to know who you are and meet yourself in the most loving and honest way you can. It also means to take the responsibility to care for yourselves and appreciate who you are with all the light and the darkness. Yin does not exist without yang.

Do we not know who we are? Life has nourished us and scarred us, we have formed belief systems and patterns of how we believe we are, how we believe we have to be and how we believe life is. We did this to protect ourselves and be safe. If we are happy where we are, if we feel a sense of belonging and well-being, there is no need to intervene. But if we feel there is more to life, if we are burdened by darkness or if life is just so hard right now, we are allowed to ask for support; in fact we need to ask for help.

Where should we begin healing?

Meet your general physician and get a proper check-up done. If something comes up, you get a chance to take a closer look.

If nothing urgent comes up, ask yourselves: How am I feeling? Rate your well-being on a scale from 0 – 10, where ten is full fit and zero is no energy at all. Where are you? And where would you rather like to be?

Recall a moment in your life, when you were in your personal best shape. Relive that moment with all your senses and ask yourselves: what was different that time? If you can sense a major difference, look deeper into that topic and get honest with yourself. You hit a gold mine and can start working with that.
Find the support team you need: Your GP, your alternative healer, a coach whatever you need at this point, and consult them regularly. You need a team behind you which you can trust.
