There are two types of people in this world – one, who don’t give a damn, while the others do. This also means that the latter category want everything their way. You may wonder why? That’s because under their oh-so-perfect world is hinged on underconfidence. And it is better that they deal with it.

The most common sign that shows their insecurity are the issues they have with their bodies. Even if they have a perfect body, they still complain and believe that maybe an inch more or less could make a difference. In fact, according to renowned psychiatrist, Dr Rahul Khemani, such people literally panic when they have something as little as a bad hair day.

Dr Khemani explains that such people seek acceptance all the time, because in their heads, if they don’t look or behave a certain way, they might not be taken seriously. But that’s not the case, especially in today’s world, where being informal and vocal has become the norm.

“Quite often, people are unhappy about the way they look and it can naturally bring down their confidence. This is how we define our body image, which refers to how we see our own body. But body image does not mean how we see ourselves in the mirror. It also comes from our beliefs, experiences, and societal expectations,” says Dr Khemani.

There is another thing that needs your attention. It may be that you are going through a mental health issue, which could be the reason behind your body image issues. Psychologically, mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and eating disorders can affect the way we feel about ourselves.

How do we deal with underconfidence and body issues?

1) “Acceptance is the key, we need to understand that perfectionism is overrated, and it depends on our perception. So, it all boils down to what you feel about yourself. Body shaming yourself brings down your self-esteem and is unhealthy. Be kind to your mind,” suggests Dr Khemani.

2) At the same time, self-care is Important. Eating healthy and on time, sleeping adequately, exercising daily, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a priority.

3) You can always consult a mental health professional and start therapy or medications based on the severity of the problem.
So ladies, don’t just put the blame on yourself, because you are more than what you look.
