Who says you can’t tell just how much your mum loves you? All you need to do is notice the amount of desi ghee floating in your bowl of dal and smeared on your roti that your mom just served.

I remember fighting with my cousins as a child because they would often remark that my mom loves them more, because they had more ghee in their food.

Till today, she tries every trick to ensure that I consume at least a spoonful of ghee every day. You see, when I was a kid I had fragile bones and weak immunity–which was my mom’s biggest concern.

I was the athletic kind, but unfortunately I would get fractures fairly easily. Next in line was my immunity. A minor flip in the weather would ensure I was bedridden for two days.

Since then, desi ghee is my mom’s ultimate remedy to keep me sturdy.

If my immunity and fragile bones were the question, desi ghee was the answer

Science says that ghee is a rich source of vitamin K2 which helps in the absorption of calcium–which we all know as the bone nutrient.

Basically, vitamin K2 extracts calcium from the arteries and fortifies bones with it–ultimately leading to stronger bones and blockage free arteries.

“Desi ghee is considered as one of the best immunity boosters in Indian society. It is beneficial for our eyesight, digestive system, and even strengthens bones. Desi ghee also promotes healthy skin and hair,” says Priyanka Rohtagi, chief clinical nutritionist at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals.

In fact, Ayurveda has a lot to say about the goodness of desi ghee too. From fighting inflammation to promoting flexibility and digestion–ghee can do it all.

Well, now I am fit as a fiddle and all the credit goes to Mommie, the ghee-reat!

Now you how wonderful ghee is. So, it’s time to indulge in a quiz and see whether you can guess all the benefits of eating ghee or not.
