Immunity has been the most used word in the last two years. We have been talking and hearing about it left, right, and centre. Whether it’s about ways to boost immunity, foods that can help with it, or the right way to stay immune — the list just goes on and on!

Not just covid-19, but otherwise too, having a strong immune system has its own perks. And this time around, all these perks belong to the mums-to-be. Yes, a US-based researcher has revealed that if you have a strong immune system during pregnancy, miscarriage can be avoided.

No doubt, our lifestyle and delayed pregnancy increases the chances of miscarriage. But if you start working on your immune system from day one, there are very few chances that there will be complications.

Here’s how a good immune system can help to avoid a miscarriage

Researchers at the University of California-San Francisco found that cells known as extrathymic Aire-expressing cells in the immune system may prevent the mother’s immune system from attacking the placenta and foetus.

The findings published in the journal Science Immunology also pointed out that your immune system recognizes placenta only when you are pregnant. A great immune system signals the T-cells in your immune system to not attack the foetus and the other tissues that evolve in your body during the pregnancy, but instead protect it.

You see how important it is to have a robust immune system, otherwise your own body can turn against your baby.
