There is no denying that being a mother is one of the most exciting phases of a woman’s life. But this experience is sometimes hindered by all kinds of complications.

Before you plan to get pregnant, it is very important that you learn various things that come with it. For example, complications, myths, facts, tricks that can help you beat the pregnancy blues during and post-pregnancy, etc.

Therefore, we thought of helping you prep up for eight common pregnancy pains that are seen amongst women.

1. Tiredness during pregnancy

According to Dr Veena Aurangabadwala, gynaecologist, Zen Multispeciality Hospital, Mumbai, tiredness is very common during pregnancy. It happens because as your baby grows inside the womb, it needs extra energy. It can also be a sign of anaemia. Hence, it is important you get plenty of rest and don’t forget to do moderate exercise.

2. Nausea or vomiting

An upset stomach is commonly seen during pregnancy. Hormonal changes during pregnancy can make you feel nauseated or you may even throw up. Sip on fluids, and avoid oily and greasy foods. Eat frequent solid meals, and whatever you can tolerate.

3. Frequent and painful urination

This problem may be seen in the first or third trimester, as the growing uterus and baby press against the bladder. During this period, it is very important that you avoid wearing tight underwear. Painful urination can be a sign of a urinary tract infection, so get it treated by the doctor.

4. Headaches

“Tension, gastritis, and constipation can invite headaches. Opt for over-the-counter medication suggested by the doctor, and use ice packs on the forehead,” suggests Dr Aurangabadwala.

5. Swollen gums

A change in blood circulation and hormone levels can lead to swollen gums. Brush your teeth properly, gently, and use an antiseptic mouthwash. Schedule your regular dental appointments because ignoring them can lead to oral problems.

“In case, you notice symptoms such as dizziness, indigestion, swollen gums, constipation, or even frequent urination, then make sure to consult your doctor on an immediate basis.
