If you’ve been planning to have a baby, you know the wait to experience early signs of pregnancy can seem longer than it is! There are some women who may suspect pregnancy based on a few symptoms, others may not even know until they miss their period. The best way to find out is to do a pregnancy test. But ladies, aren’t you curious to know how long it takes for women to start seeing pregnancy symptoms after conception?

We knew it! That’s why we asked Dr Manavita Mahajan, Chief and Coordinator Academics – Obs and Gynae and Minimal Invasive Access Surgery, Artemis Hospitals, and Daffodils by Artemis Gurgaon, tells HealthShots, “Early symptoms of pregnancy are usually different for every woman. Some get cramping pain in the lower abdomen, some get vaginal spotting within 5-9 days of conceiving, which is normal implantation bleeding. However, for most women, the first common symptoms noticed are heaviness and tenderness in the breasts along with a missed period cycle.”

Some early signs of pregnancy women must watch out for

“Women who have been trying to conceive may notice that their body temperature in the mornings is marginally higher, post ovulation. This can also be an indicator to take a quick pregnancy test. Universally, the commonly discussed symptoms of conception or pregnancy indicators are morning sickness which appears after 10-14 days of a missed period cycle ( 3-4 weeks after conceiving), and more than 70 percent of women go for a pregnancy test only after they notice these signs,” says Dr Mahajan.

A few uncommon changes that vary within individuals that could point at pregnancy include food aversions, change in taste, nausea, vomiting, backache, increased frequency of urination, mood swings, hunger pangs, change in sleeping patterns, and food cravings. These start to occur as soon as the period is missed or just two weeks after conception.

These signs and symptoms may show up after conception:

* Implantation cramping or bleeding: Around 5-9 days after ovulation and conception
* Positive urine pregnancy test: Around 12-14 days after ovulation/ conception
* Positive blood pregnancy test: Around 10 days after conceiving
* Missed periods and sore and tender breasts: Around 2 weeks after conception
* Persistent elevated basal body temperature: Around 2 weeks post-conception
* Nausea/vomiting/morning sickness: Around 2 weeks of missed periods
* Frequent urination , fatigue, tiredness: Around 2 weeks of missed periods
* Fetal movements: These are felt usually 18-20 weeks post-conception
