We look up to Bollywood celebs for all kinds of inspiration, especially when it comes to beauty and fitness. Their social media feeds are a treasure trove of information, and it goes without saying that we can’t have enough of them! If there’s one thing several of them swear by, it is Ayurveda. From Kareena Kapoor Khan to Anushka Sharma, these beauties tap into the power of this ancient practice to stay healthy and fit.

But what are some of the Ayurveda practices that Bollywood actresses follow? Let’s take a look:

Ayurveda practices that Bollywood beauties love:

1. Dincharya

As the name suggests, this Ayurvedic routine requires a person to prepare mentally and physically for the day ahead. It starts with waking up at 4 a.m. or before sunrise, since the air is pure, and it helps to cleanse the body inside out. The next step is to chant a prayer, wash your face, mouth, and eyes, and drink at least 150 ml of warm water to flush out toxins from the body. Ayurveda also advocates the use of twigs for brushing your teeth, exercising, and bathing every single day.

2. Abhyanga

This is a form of self-massage in which medicated oil is applied all over the body, especially the head, ears and feet. Using oil on the scalp helps to prevent dandruff or any other tress troubles, while application on the ears helps to calm the vata. Walking also enhances vata, which is why it is also used on the feet. Not only does this practice nourish your skin, but also slows down the aging process.

3. Panchkarma

As part of the Panchkarma practice in Ayurveda, toxins are flushed out from the body through a series of actions. It includes vamanam, which encourages vomiting, virechana which means purgation using a laxative, and niruham, which makes use of oils inside the body to cleanse through the rectum. It also includes oil enema and nasyam, which means you put medicated oils through your nostrils to cleanse your body.

4. Oil pulling

This is an Ayurveda practice that came to our notice, when Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma put out a post on social media. Here’s what she wrote, “My morning ritual of oil pulling in the company of my sweet-smoosh-doggo Dude! Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic practice known as ‘Kavala’ or ‘Gundusha’, a dental technique that involves swishing little oil in your mouth on an empty stomach for a few minutes and then spitting it out. This action is excellent for dental hygiene and health and also draws out toxins in the body. As we are all using this time to take better care of our health and improve our immunity I thought of sharing this. Hopefully, it will be as beneficial to you too.”

5. Yoga

We already know that yoga has lately taken the world by storm, but our Bollywood beauties back home have been practicing various asanas since ages! Whether it’s pranayama or other moves, actresses like Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Rakulpreet, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Mira Rajput have been true advocates of yoga for its physical and mental health benefits.

The last word

Ayurveda is not just another practice, it is a way of life, as Mira Rajput rightly puts it across. “Ayurveda is the science of life. It is a way of life. My way of life. It’s not just amla, neem, and ashwagandha or churans, rasas, and lepas. It is prakriti (the individual constitution you were born with), vikruti (current state of balance or disbalance), our journey through different stages of life, bala, madhya and jirna, and ritu (season),” she had said in an earlier post.
