If you want to shed those extra kilos from your body and achieve a toned look, it is not a big feat to attempt in the first place. You can certainly lose weight quickly. However, you have to look beyond those fad diets that work to shed pounds rapidly, but then leave you feeling hungry and deprived. What’s the point really to lose weight only to feel uncomfortable and eventually gain it back?

For the unversed, one point of fat (0.45 kilo) is equal to 3,500 calories, so by just cutting down 500 calories a day through dietary and exercise modifications, you can easily lose weight in a healthy way, in just a week. Do not forget, to keep the weight away permanently, you need to lose it slowly. It can be done by not going on a “diet.” Just make simple tweaks to your lifestyle, and you are good to go!

To say the least, we all tend to make mistakes during our weight loss journey and it’s important to know the correct practices.

Without further ado, let’s find out the answers of the most common weight loss questions, from an expert:

1. If I cut calories, won’t I be hungry?

One way to cut calories without feeling extra hungry is to eat more foods that contain a lot of fiber and water, but not a lot of calories, according to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. This usually means consuming more fruits and vegetables, such as spinach, broccoli, tomato, watermelon, apples, beans and peas.

2. Why am I always hungry?

“There are multiple reasons you could always be hungry. You could be anxious, stressed, depressed, or getting insufficient sleep, a diet lacking fibre, inadequate protein consumption, and low calorie intake. Intense work-out/exercise routines, excessive alcohol consumption and certain medications can make it worse,” Dr Aparna Dhar, Head of Department: Medical Genomics and Genetic Counseling, SRL Limited, told HealthShots.

3. I have lost weight, how quickly am I going to regain it?

It depends on the route you’ve taken to lose weight. Crash diets give you quick results. However, once you fall off the wagon, the weight just piles back. To embark on a weight loss journey with successful results, it is important to chalk out a weight loss plan by consulting experts like nutritionists, trainers etc.

4. I am dieting and exercising, but there is no weight loss?

According to Dr Dhar, you are not losing weight loss due to the following reasons:

  1. Insulin resistance/hormonal imbalance
  2. Higher intake of calories vs exercise/workout
  3. Overexertion or inflammation in your body. If you exercise too hard on a daily basis, there is a possibility of excess inflammation in your body.

Thus, it’s always advisable to consult a specialist before you bring about lifestyle changes, including those in food habits and sudden increase in physical exercise.
