The wonders of Ayurveda have been spoken about since time immemorial. In the past, its benefits were embraced largely by the older generation, but slowly and steadily, it has become a way of life for many who belong to the younger lot, including Bollywood celeb Mira Rajput.

On the occasion of World Ayurveda Day, Rajput opened up about her holistic way of living, courtesy Ayurveda. Here’s what she wrote in an Instagram post, “Ayurveda is the science of life. It is a way of life. My way of life. It’s not just amla, neem and ashwagandha or churans, rasas and lepas. It is prakriti (the individual constitution you were born with), vikruti (current state of balance or disbalance), our journey through different stages of life, bala, madhya and jirna, and ritu (season).”

This isn’t the first time that Rajput has spilled the beans on such time-tested ways of leading a healthy lifestyle. Her social media feed is scattered with posts that give us a window into her diet, fitness regime (yoga is definitely bae) and her skincare secrets!

The ‘Ayurveda’ way of life

In the same post, Rajput has shared that Ayurveda is the “ultimate exercise of self-realisation.” It is the process of “knowing thyself” and the continuous evolution of the self.

We all know it is the health of our gut that governs our overall health and well-being, and that’s exactly why she believes in Ayurveda even more.

Interestingly at the ‘heart’ of Ayurveda is digestion. It isn’t just what the body (sharir) feeds on, but what the mind (satwa), the senses (indriya) and the spirit (atma) digest too. It is as much about internal balance, as it is about harmony with nature and being in-tune with it; the movement of the sun, seasons, the quality of the wind, the virya (inherent quality) of the produce and the way the body responds to it.”

The pandemic has made us realise the importance of health, but at the same time, has also instilled feelings of fear. Rajput urged everyone to make Ayurveda a part of their lives, since the ancient system of medicine is all about understanding who we are and caring for the body not with fear but with kindness and knowledge.

“The wisdom of our Indian heritage deserves our respect for it is still relevant more than 3,000 years later,” she added.

The last word

Health is truly wealth, which is why Rajput ended her post with these words, “Eat with your heart, digest with your soul and heal through the gut.”
