For those caught unaware, carom seeds or ajwain are actually really not seeds, but rather the fruit of the plant. With slightly green to brown colour, they have a strong aroma and pungent flavour. Since they are highly nutritious and are rich in fibre, minerals, vitamins and antioxidants, carom seeds or ajwain have a place in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for treatment of a variety of ailments, but specially for fighting cough, cold and throat issues.

How can ajwain potli be beneficial in monsoons?

It is a common occurrence that people suffer from cough, common cold and sore throat as the weather transitions from summer season to the monsoon season. According to renowned nutritionist Shweta Shah, “Ajwain potli is the age-old remedy used in major Indian households as it is said to cure all the flu-related symptoms.”

According to Shah, an ajwain potli can be made by taking a rectangular steve cloth or cotton cloth and then sewing it from three sides. Then add ajwain in it and sew the cloth from the last side.

How to use it?

Shah, in her latest Instagram post, explains how to use ajwain potli in the changing weather. Start with placing the potli on a heated tawa for 5-7 minutes or by heating it in the microwave for 3-4 minutes.
