Kavita Devgan, a Nutritionist, Weight Loss Consultant and a Health Writer, tells HealthShots that clove and honey mix as one of the most effective remedies for flu symptoms.

“Honey can help soothe a sore throat. A staple in Indian cuisine, cloves are loaded with potent antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory compounds. So, this remedy is great for winter ailments like cough and cold,” says Devgan.

Here’s how you can make your own clove and honey mix to beat cough and cold:

  1. Heat a flat iron tawa.
  2. Gently roast 5-6 cloves on it for 2 minutes.
  3. Pound and crush the cloves in a mortar and pestle.
  4. Add a tablespoon of honey to it.
  5. Mix to combine.

This mixture can be taken 2-3 times a day in case of cough and cold or throat irritation.

As a bonus tip, Devgan suggests adding cinnamon to the mix to help cure the inflammation better.

Cough and cold become rampant, especially during the winter season. These problems, if not taken care of, can further aggravate a series of health issues, including faulty immunity and many other allergies.

If you notice any signs of cough and cold, consume lukewarm water, gargle twice a day and avoid eating cold foods. However, if the symptoms persist, kindly opt for a doctor’s advice. And needless to say, but let us give you a reminder that you must go in for a Covid-19 test to rule out the possibility of a coronavirus infection!
