Amla, also known as Indian gooseberry, has been used since ancient times to deal with hair troubles. It contains essential vitamins and antioxidants that don’t just improve the health of damaged hair but also work towards preventing hair problems. From hair fall, slow hair growth, and dandruff to dryness and split-ends, amla can take care of all your hair issues!

An absolutely natural ingredient, using amla for hair should be made a regular feature in your life. Using amla for hair can leave you with soft and strong tresses along with treating scalp troubles such as dandruff. What more could you ask for?

Here are 4 easy ways to add amla to your hair care routine for beautiful tresses:
1. Add amla to your hair Mask

Treat your hair to a spa-like treatment right at home with an amla-based hair mask. Not only will it cleanse your hair and scalp but will also have long term benefits such as stronger roots and reduced hair fall. This hair mask, made using amla in combination with yoghurt and banana, is extremely moisturising.

To prepare the amla hair mask, mix 1 teaspoon of amla with 3 teaspoons of yoghurt and half a mashed banana. Apply this paste to your scalp and along the length of your hair. Let it stay for 20 to 25 minutes before washing it off with water.

2. Add amla to your hair oil

Amla oil has been used since time immemorial for a healthy haircare routine and there’s a good reason behind it. Regularly massaging the scalp and hair with amla oil is believed to stop hair fall, contribute to healthy growth, prevent dandruff and delay premature ageing. There are multiple amla oil products available in the market today and you can pick a brand you trust the most. Do keep in mind that you will need to apply it to your hair regularly to start seeing the benefits.

Begin by heating the amla oil slightly. It should be lukewarm. Apply it to your scalp and along the length of your hair. Massage it for at least 20 minutes. Now, wait for at least 1 hour to wash it off with a mild shampoo.

3. You can even use amla as a hair cleanser

For healthy hair, you need to take care of your scalp health too. Keeping it clear of dandruff and dirt requires a powerful cleanser. In such a case, what could be better than an amla cleanser? Using amla in combination with reetha and shikakai, two of the most powerful cleansers, can leave your scalp clean and healthy.

To prepare this amla hair cleanser, mix 1 teaspoon of amla powder with 1 teaspoon of reetha powder, 1 teaspoon of shikakai powder and 100 ml water. Wet your hair and apply this cleanser on the scalp as well as along the length of your hair. Massage it for 3 to 4 minutes before washing it off. You have to essentially use it as a shampoo.

4. Or as a hair rinse

Using an amla hair rinse is a great way to add a boost of proteins and antioxidants to your hair care routine. Doing so will only boost hair health and leave you with beautiful tresses. Moreover, it will also act as a natural moisturiser!

To make this amla hair rinse, add ½ cup of amla juice to 100ml water. After you’re done washing your hair, pour this hair rinse over your scalp and tresses. You can choose to wash it out but leaving it on will have greater effects for your hair health!
