Travelling is stressful, even when you are flying to some exotic location. All the stress associated with travel can disrupt your body’s equilibrium, particularly your skin. But since Covid-19 dropped in like a bomb, people are confined into their homes. However, if you’re somebody who needs to go out to work, run errands or your job requires frequent travelling, you should not forget taking care of your skin. Skincare practices need to be followed each day despite the location, day plan, or busy schedule.

Before you set out, a million thoughts run through your head – from packing your clothes to gathering your belongings. Your skin is probably the last thing on your mind. But, giving your skin the love it needs is necessary for it to love you back!

We at HealthShots have got you covered if you don’t know how to keep your skin happy while away from home. Dr Nivedita Dadu, Renowned Dermatologist, reveals skin care practices to keep your skin looking its best when stepping out.

5 skincare steps to follow are:

1. Keep applying moisturizer

Apply intense moisturizing cream the night before you travel. This will help to keep the skin hydrated and moisturized and also saves from the adverse weather conditions. Direct sunlight or strong wind can make the skin dry and damage the skin texture markedly. Reapply the moisturizer while travelling to maintain a soft, supple skin, irrespective of the weather conditions.

2. Keep your skin hydrated

The lipid barrier inhibits moisture loss from the skin and protects it from environmental aggressors. Apply a moisturizer that not only strengthens the lipid barrier but maintains it too. Go for a moisturizer that contains Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin and vitamin C to boost barrier health.

3. Always keep SPF handy

Apply sunscreen generously to save the skin from the harsh effects of UV rays. It will help to protect the skin from tanning and sunburns. Excessive exposure to the sun also results in early aging. Reapply it every 2-3 hourly and use a good emollient to keep the skin moist from within.

4. Apply a cleanser

While travelling, our skin attracts a lot of dirt and dust which get accumulated on the skin and cause breakouts. A cleanser will wash out all the muck and keep the skin clean and refreshed. Keep your cleanser with you as even a slight change in skincare products may act abruptly on the skin and cause ‘vacation breakouts’.

5. Apply toner

Keep a hydrating face mist handy to calm any redness or irritation on the skin. Keep a toner in your travel pouch as its formulations can instantly mattify and re-energise sweaty and greasy skin. It also balances the pH levels of the skin so that you do not suffer from any breakouts or dullness later on.
