You’ve probably heard it multiple times that coffee is bad for health. There’s no denying that exceeding a certain limit on a daily basis can be harmful. But, then again, we already know that too much of anything is bad.

Having said that, consuming anything in moderation never harms anyone and the same holds true for coffee. And if you’re a true blue coffee lover, you’re going to love what we’re going to tell you right now.

So, the news is that drinking coffee isn’t all that bad because according to a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it was observed that people who consumed coffee in moderation regularly showed a reduction in cognitive decline.

Another reason why researchers feel that you must consume coffee every day is that it might reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s is a neurological disorder that affects the memory extremely severely, causing the patient to often even forget their own family members. But the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease says that coffee can help in keeping your memory intact.

Here are 3 properties of coffee that’ll keep your brain charged:

1. Polyphenols: Tissue damage in your brain can cause loss of memory and other cognitive disorders. Polyphenols in coffee curtail this action caused by free radicals and preserve the cells.

2. Caffeine: We all know that caffeine helps in boosting serotonin levels in your brain which not just boosts your mood but also stimulates your brain activity. That’s why you feel recharged after sipping a cup of coffee.

3. Trigonelline: Coffee is one of the richest sources of trigonelline and it is known to have neuroprotective potential. This is the main reason why coffee can be of great help in keeping Alzheimer’s at bay. It basically works on the hippocampus of the brain and improves spatial recognition memory by preserving the brain cells.

But coffee isn’t for everyone
Love it or hate it, coffee isn’t everyone’s best friend. Those who are dealing with cardiovascular problems, anxiety, gut problems, and high blood pressure should steer away from coffee because it can shoot up your heart rate and can have adverse effects.

PERSONALISE NOW

“People with hypertension and gastrointestinal disorder should avoid coffee as it will be an irritant for them. I would recommend having a maximum of two cups in a day as it will be a safer way to stimulate your brain while taking care of your overall health” says Dr. Anuja Gaur, Head- Nutritionist, Akash Healthcare & Super Speciality Hospital, Dwarka.

Before including coffee in your daily dose of wellness, do consult your doctor, especially if you have an existing health issue.
