A lot of young girls, and women suffer from PCOS today. And like most diseases, PCOS is also caused by food and lifestyle related disorders. That’s why the first line of effective treatment should be through food and lifestyle changes, and not through birth control pills!

I suffered from PCOS for many years, and had to deal with several struggles before I ventured into the world of healing and nutrition. That’s how I cured my condition naturally, without the use of any medication. Changes in our food habits can be very powerful, as they have a direct impact on our biology.

Here are some things you can do to heal yourself naturally, if you have PCOS or any other hormonal issues like fibroids and endometriosis. Consider this the ultimate guide on PCOS diet:

1. Reduce the intake of high glycemic foods

PCOS  is caused due to hormonal imbalances, which are further caused due to your body being insulin-resistant. Eat low glycemic index foods like whole grains, and add a variety of vegetables every day to your meals, to make sure your body gets enough nutrition, and less glucose spikes. Foods like broccoli, cabbage, beans, lentils, mustard leaves, seeds etc are great to balance hormones.

2. Include ghee in your diet

Ghee has been a part of the Indian diet since ages, and it is still a mystery to me as to why people are scared of eating it! Ghee is great for balancing your hormones, and also for lubrication of your joints. It is also excellent for your brain health. However, make sure that the ghee you consume is made from raw milk, and is hormone and antibiotic-free. Don’t buy the cheap variants made in factories.

3. Reduce intake of milk

A lot of people are unable to digest milk and milk products very well, and yet they continue to have them. If you don’t digest milk well, it’s best to avoid it to make sure it does not interfere with your body.

4. Reduce intake of fruits

Most fruits are very high in natural sugar. If you are already insulin-resistant, you need to watch out your fruit consumption. Don’t cut them out totally, but reduce as much as possible, till your body becomes sensitive to insulin again.

5. Keep a limited eating window

It is important to go a few hours without eating, to give a break to your digestive system and to increase your body’s receptivity to insulin. Fasting for a few hours every single day is a great way to do this. Limit the number of hours in which you eat every day.

6. Add movement to your life

While food changes can help with the majority of your health issues, combining a good diet with movement, is a sureshot way to enhance your health. You don’t have to over-exercise, but some form of movement every day is a must!

7. Exposure to sun

We take this for granted and most people I know don’t get any exposure to the sun, because of the way their homes are designed, due to lack of space, or simply because they don’t go out of their house. The energy of the sun is crucial for not just synthesizing vitamin D, but also for maintaining a good circadian rhythm. Expose yourself to the sun at least 30 mins every day.
