Hair loss is a common condition that almost everyone we know complains about. But that turns into a concern when bald patches start to appear. Did you ignore hair loss for another seasonal effect? Have you recently noticed a bald patch whenever you brush your hair? While it is a condition that affects millions of people, it may hamper your confidence. If you have noticed a small patch, it is time for you to know how to deal with bald patches before it turns into severe hair loss that affects the entire scalp.

Health Shots asked Dr Ramakant Yadav, Associate Professor, Of the Kayachikitsa department at All India Institute of Ayurveda, to share some ways for people to deal with bald patches.

How to deal with bald patches?

Generally, bald spots develop due to several different health conditions that should be addressed in time. In medical terminology, bald spots develop due to a condition known as Alopecia areata, where hair loss occurs in patches. It either appears on the scalp, around the beard, or on the face. It is a condition that is mostly associated with autoimmunity, which is a condition where the system makes a mistake and attacks its own tissues and organs, explains Dr Yadav.

Some of the other reasons for bald patches include fungal infections, exposure to toxic products, and stress, he adds.

How to deal with bald patches with Ayurveda?

In Ayurveda, the bald patches are known as Indralupta. “The science of Ayurveda is based upon the Tri Dosh, which means Vata, Kapha, and Pitta. If the Vata and Pitta around the face area increase due to any reason it ultimately results in the falling of hair,” elucidates Dr Yadav.

Ayurveda is a holistic practice that has been used throughout history to treat all kinds of health conditions, and bald patch is no different. The expert says that Ayurveda is a holistic treatment that helps in the growth of hair. However, medicines are prescribed after a thorough examination of the patient.

Rasayana therapy for patchy bald spots

While these home remedies can help, there’s little you can do when your body is not supporting the process.
