Some women experience the urge for frequent urination, and one of the causes could be fibroids. Frequent urination urge is a symptom of fibroid growth along with heavy bleeding, swollen abdomen, severe cramps and low energy levels. Fibrods can sometimes lead to urinary incontinence, which is a loss of bladder control that often happens with older people.

There are two types of incontinence, one with a bladder and the other one with a bowel. And when it comes to fibroids, usually the bladder gets affected. Fibroids can also impact the bowel system, but it depends upon their size and location. However, it’s quite rare and and people experience constipation in such cases rather than incontinence.

It is important to be aware of such conditions when it comes to your health. It will help you in keeping a track of your health, and you can easily consult a doctor if you experience any signs that need immediate medical attention.

Why do fibroids cause the urge for frequent urination?

Well, fibroids grow around the uterine wall, and they can put pressure on the surrounding organs. If fibroids are growing larger and there are numerous tumors, they can expand the uterus, leading to bladder compression.

A compressed bladder will have less space to hold urine in it. This is the reason that women with this condition have an urge to urinate frequently. If large enough, all kinds of fibroids have the tendency to put pressure on the surrounding organs.

Subserosal Fibroids that grow on the surface of the uterine wall can protrude into other organs.

If the size of the uterus is changed due to fibroid growth, it can also partially block the passage which will interrupt the flow of urine. In some cases, the passage is completely blocked and surgical procedures are done to open up the passage.

What’s the cure for fibroids?

Fibroids can be bothersome, and surgeries are a nightmare to some people. But there are other ways to get rid of fibroids and the problems that come along with it.

One of the most used less-invasive fibroid treatments is Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE). It uses a specialised ultrasound technique that helps in mapping of the fibroid, so it can be treated easily.

During the procedure, the patient will be given a local anesthesia and a light sedative. The doctor will numb the patient’s upper thigh. After that embolic agents will be injected through a tiny catheter into your uterine artery which will help in blocking the flow of blood and nutrients to the fibroids growing in your uterus. Due to lack of needed blood and nutrients, these fibroids will wither and die in a few weeks.

In the absence of fibroids, the pressure on the bladder and uterus will decrease and they will eventually return to their original size and regular functions. There is little discomfort as the specialists use minimally invasive techniques which allows them to cure the condition with little to no scarring and no stitches.
